Cadet First Sergeant Marcus Palacios stands in the partial shade of the recently planted tree during the tree's dedication ceremony on Saturday. This tree, and one other, were planted to honor Pekin veterans Marine Lance Cpl. Jordan Bastean, who died fighting in Afghanistan in 2011, and Army Sgt. Dean Shaffer, who died in Afghanistan in April 2012.
