Learning to be a dad again

Aaron Torrance is 30 years old. He has multiple felony convictions, hepatitis C, and is $10,000 in debt. After 15 years of escalating drug use - marijuana, meth, cocaine, OxyContin, and finally heroin - Torrance has gotten clean, and has regained full custody over his two young sons, Liam, 3, and Kaeden, 9, who had been taken from their mother by Child Protective Services due to worries over her drug use. Torrance had been in jail at the time. Now, Torrance is learning how to be a single father, and how to stay clean. Everyday it is a struggle. But Torrance has found a new job, and a new apartment for his family. He is 21 months clean, and ready to begin his life again.

Aftermath

Rubi Delgado-Brito and her eight kids lost their apartment in a recent fire. They talked to two reporters and me at a middle school that one of the boys attends. After the interview, a school counselor led them to a room where all the community donations were being held for the family - the kids were excited, Rubi seemed a bit overwhelmed.
